Earlier this year, state lawmakers adopted a new bill (HB1525) about Human Sexuality and Responsibility curriculum and about the responsibilities of a School Health Advisory Council. Austin ISD is working to ensure that we’re meeting all the requirements of the bill, including one important one that districts must notify parents/legal guardians that they teach this unit.
AISD’s HSR unit will be taught in November and December, and families can give written permission to opt their child into this unit. Principals will provide an HSR orientation meeting this fall and will send out the permission slips at least two weeks before HSR instruction begins.
