The McCallum High School Project Graduation is a non-profit, 501(c)3 tax exempt organization that was established in 2013. We do not receive funds from the school or district budgets. Our success is dependent upon a strong partnership between business and community leaders, parents and guardians, law enforcement, and school officials for volunteerism, fundraising, and logistical support.
Our charter is to bring alcohol and drug awareness programs to the McCallum community to educate members on the effects of alcohol and drugs. Our goal is to offer 3 programs per year that educate our parents/guardians and students about drugs and alcohol. The agencies and organizations that we are aligned to include Texas PTSA, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Program, The Center for Students in Recovery, University High School, Teen and Family Services, Aware Awake Alive, and Brown Distributing Company. Statistically, the time to start discussing the effects of drugs and alcohol with students is in the 4th grade.
The parents, guardians, teachers and staff of McCallum High School comprise the organization. We meet the last Monday of the school months and are led by our Executive Committee who serves a one year term. The organization interacts with our vertical schools, other area high schools and local organizations supporting the same mission. Our intent is to collaborate to maximize resources across all groups. Each class has the opportunity to fundraise throughout the four years to provide a substance free, all-night party and celebration for our graduates called “GradKnight”.
GradKnight is the name of McCallum High School’s graduation celebration for seniors.
This event is part of a nationally recognized alcohol and drug free celebration designed to give high school graduates a safe alternative to celebrating their special night. Statistics have shown that students celebrating on the evening of graduation can experience one of the most dangerous nights of their young lives.
